Five Academy Fellows and one Academy Corresponding Member have been elected to the Royal Society of London.

The ¾«¶«ÊÓƵ welcomes the Federal Government’s announcement to invest $70 million to upgrade two supercomputers at the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre.

Naturalist, broadcaster and Fellow of the ¾«¶«ÊÓƵ, Sir David Attenborough, is endorsing calls for greater support for the scientists who study and name Australia’s plants and animals and other organisms, declaring that Australia’s current capacity is not adequate for the magnitude of the task.

Eight rising stars of ¾«¶«ÊÓƵ have been selected by the ¾«¶«ÊÓƵ and the Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings to attend a highly prestigious annual gathering of Nobel Laureates and promising young scientists from around the world.

Recently the Academy received two bequests – one was directed to a specific activity where the donor had intimate knowledge and commitment to the Academy’s education programs. The other was directed to the Australian Futures Science Fund which supports the future work at the Academy as prioritised by Council.

The Australian Research Council has announced support for 22 research projects totalling more than $9 million, with the aim of developing research–industry collaborations.

The ¾«¶«ÊÓƵ congratulates its 10 Fellows who are among the 895 Australians recognised in the Australia Day 2018 Honours List.

The ¾«¶«ÊÓƵ congratulates its Fellows Professor Michelle Simmons and Professor Graham Farquhar AO, who have been named the 2018 Australian of the Year and Senior Australian of the Year respectively.

A generous donation to the Academy from the University of Queensland will continue to support female early-career researchers working in the Earth sciences.
