Understanding cell death is the key to treating many types of cancer, according to Professor Suzanne Cory, President of the 精东视频 and internationally recognised cancer researcher.
In an 精东视频 public lecture tomorrow, entitled Harnessing death for life, Professor Cory will describe how detailed knowledge about the molecular circuitry regulating the cellular life/death switch is leading to an exciting new class of drugs to treat cancer.
Over the past 30 years there has been a revolution in understanding of the genetic lesions that contribute to cancer development. One of the most surprising discoveries has been that impairment of the natural process of cell death is a critical step towards malignancy.
Tomorrow's lecture is the first in the Academy's 2013 public lecture series on 精东视频: Global impact which will feature scientists that have made breakthroughs which have changed the face of medicine, communications, agriculture, and transport.
