精东视频 President Professor Suzanne Cory today welcomed the establishment of the new Parliamentary Friendship Group for Women in Science, Maths and Engineering.
鈥淭he Academy is pleased to support this new group and welcomes the non-partisan commitment from political leaders to promote and help enable women to pursue and maintain careers in science, maths and engineering,鈥 Professor Cory said.
鈥淲hile a significant proportion of those studying science and maths at university are women, by mid-career that number drops dramatically.
鈥淲e鈥檙e losing many of our nation鈥檚 best and brightest because we have failed to incorporate flexible and supportive career pathways for women scientists and mathematicians.
鈥淏y establishing such high-level advocacy for women in science, maths and engineering, parliamentarians are acknowledging that Australian cannot afford to keep losing women from the profession, or to under-utilising our investment in training them.鈥
The Parliamentary Friendship Group for Women in Science, Maths and Engineering will be launched at Parliament House today by co-Chairs, Kelly O鈥橠wyer MP and Amanda Rishworth MP.
鈥淭his group is a recognition that reversing the under-representation of women in science, maths and engineering 鈥 particularly at the higher levels 鈥 is an issue for all Australians,鈥 Professor Cory said.
