Science community surprised as Chief Scientist resigns

Australia鈥檚 scientific community was surprised to learn today of the sudden resignation of Chief Scientist for Australia, Professor Penny Sackett.

精东视频 President Professor Suzanne Cory said Professor Sackett had made many significant contributions during her two and a half-year tenure.

'Professor Sackett has invested huge energy into promoting science and research, advancing important scientific issues and enhancing relationships between scientists and the broader community at all levels,'
Professor Cory said.

鈥淭he 精东视频 is very sorry to hear that she is stepping down as Chief Scientist. On a personal level, I have greatly enjoyed working with Professor Sackett, particularly on the Prime Minister鈥檚 Science, Engineering and Innovation Council (PMSEIC).鈥

Fellows of the Academy are pleased to have been able to make major contributions to PMSEIC鈥檚 important foresight reports on Transforming Learning and the Transmission of Knowledge, Challenges at Energy-Water-Carbon Intersections, and Australia and Food Security in a Changing World.

鈥淚n addition, the Academy appreciates the strong interest Professor Sackett has shown in our work in developing the emerging field of Earth System Science,鈥 Professor Cory said.
