National Committee member wins Antarctic research medal

A member of the 精东视频鈥檚 National Committee for Antarctic Research has received a prestigious award ahead of an international meeting on Antarctic research.

Professor Steven Chown was awarded the Medal for Excellence in Antarctic Research at the (SCAR) in Auckland yesterday.

The SCAR is an international committee coordinating scientific research in the Antarctic region.

Professor Chown received the award for his work into climate change and the biological invasion of Antarctic species and ecosystems. He was also recognised for influencing policy makers and helping to ensure conservation in the Antarctic region.

The Open Science Conference precedes the SCAR delegates meeting which will examine issues facing Antarctic science and make strategic decisions in the field.

The chair of the Academy鈥檚 National Committee for Antarctic Science, Dr Dana Bergstrom and the chair of the committee for Earth System Science, Dr Tas van Ommen will both be attending as voting delegates.
